Bob Neff insisted Joe Considine and I go out for Cross Country in Fall 1962 in preparation for Basketball. I lasted about a week. Joe became one of the stars of the team!

Here's a good one of Dennis playing on the Varsity Basketball team.

Anybody hear from Ray Schlaff in recent years? I think Ray missed the 1963-64 year of basketball due to an injury. However, he starred as a Varsity player as a sophmore, 1962-63. He came roaring back 1964-65 after I grad
The year after I graduated (1964) Bob Neff had a real live actual contending basketball team lead by Ray Schlaff and Terry Coleman. Ted Simmons was a strong player as well. I remember coming home from college to watch the
Same game. . . Joe Considine played guard and was often the leading scorer.
It appears that Dan L. Haas, my across the street neighbor growing-up on Maplewood Drive has passed away.
Same December 1964 article as the picture. Amazingly, the article claims I scored 12 points against Dondero, apparently after some of the starters fouled-out. Maybe my mother saved articles ONLY when I played and scored!
Joe Considine in same game 1962-63 season. Joe played guard and was often the scoring leader.
Now here is a strange reportage. Apparently, I was actually in the game against Walled Lake in the 1962-63 season and actually scored 4 points. The reporter also makes the claim that my rebounding can't be overlooked.
Yeah, I know. This is a picture of Tom Zurcher playing on the Southfield High Varsity football team. He was also my catcher on the Southfield 1964 American Legion baseball team. We both trained pretty intensively in the
Here, I'm hitting a ball from the pitching machine. Generally, I was a poor hitter as pitchers should be. But I did improve with the batting cage in my yard!
Here the mechanical pitching arm is just getting to the tipping point where the spring will "take over."
Unfortunately, the pitching machine would not operate without someone holding down the back of it. . . so batting practice was still a 2-man job. But the machine threw pretty fast and accurate if held down properly.
My father, baseball fan(atic) that he was, designed and built a pitching machine and set it up in a batting cage in our yard (we had several acres on the Rouge).
I was usually a "bench warmer" on varsity basketball, so I had plenty of time to watch the outstanding cheerleaders!
